Regular testing of carbonate hardness is recommended for all marine aquariums, especially marine reefs as most corals rapidly deplete carbonate reserves, mandatory for coral and other invertebrate growth and condition. Carbonate Hardness (KH) is directly implicated in stability of pH levels in fresh and saltwater aquariums. General Hardness (GH) is important for establishing and monitoring correct conditions for soft and hard water fish species.
